I am a Ctibank account holder since July 6th 2009 in M. G Road Branch, Bangalore.
Till 2014th Oct 1st, I was using the account for my salary credit. Later I changed the company and I stopped using my account as I was in abroad. However, Citibank without any intimation converted this to minimum 1,00,000 Rs account and deducted 500 Rs as penalty/service charge at the end of Jan 2015. And as of today, my account balance had gone in negative with Rs.899/-
Later, after my return to India, on August 19th 2017, I went to one of the nearest branch( Jayanagar Branch in Bangalore) and asked them to close the account. The CItibank officials there, asked me to pay that negative amount so that they can close my account. I was forced to pay that amount to get my account closed. I have given a request for my account closure. I need to wait for 7 days.
As per the RBI norms, Citibank cannot impose any penalty fees for not maintaining the minimum balance in the account also I did not get any prior intimation to know about this fact also.
