Unusable 2 year old Panasonic Viera TV

I bought a Panasonic TH L32D25D Smart Viera LED TV in May 2011. In September 2013, the TV suddenly failed & the red red light blinking. CHARCHCO ELECTRONICS ( INDIA) PVT LTD, Kolkata 700026 received the TV and registered complaint No 12 CI(I)CA066 on 12th September 2013 after payment of inspection charge of Rs 562. After 7 days we were informed that the estimate for repairs was Rs 8000/- and asked us to deposit of Rs 2000/- immediately if I wanted it repaired. This was paid.

On inquiry one month later on 25th October, 2013, I was informed that the spares for repair was not in stock and the TV could not be repaired. I was told that if I was willing to pay additional charges, they may decide to offer another TV on discount. This is preposterous. In the first place I cannot understand how a TV can fail in 3 years and then how Panasonic can demand such exorbitant charges for repair. Further, they are unable to carry out the repair and are demanding money for replacement. This was my first PANASONIC TV and I regret having purchased it. I never had a single bad experience with any of the SONY TVs which I had bought in last 20 years ( I had replaced them for newer models). I will never buy another PANASONIC product and ask everyone to be cautious.

  1. The status remains unchanged as of 3rd November 2013 and CHARCHO ELECTRONICS has now stopped responding to inquiries. The standard reply to telephonic queries is that they will get back- which never happens. I wonder whether PANASONIC people know about the sorry state of affairs and how it is affecting their reputation. I intend to move the Consumer Court if there is no resolution in reasonable time.
