I booked a hotel room at the Hyatt Regency Chennai on 16th June, 2016 with my HDFC Credit card. The computer got hung up, the transaction did not go through apparently and the screen prompted me to do the transaction again, which I did, within a time period of few minutes. However, after some time, I received sms messages from the credit card company about the two separate transactions. At the time of check in, I brought it to the notice of the receptionist, who promised to adjust it with the final bill. However, while checking out, the person on duty refused to adjust it, saying that he got only one payment. Again I checked with the credit card company who informed me that two payments have been effected, but the hotel cashier refused to admit the same.
Now, the hotel claims that the two were two separate bookings and that the second transaction will be treated as a case of ‘no show’. This cannot be so for the simple reason that I had elaborate conversation about the case at the time of check in, and check out, so how can it be a ‘no show’? And why did they not tell me so at the time of check in ? The refusal to return the payment even after the matter came to the notice of the hotel management, by taking cover of such reasons, gives rise to suspicion.
I happened to notice this only because of the sms messages. Consumers who may miss such messages may be getting regularly cheated. I request that (1) necessary orders be passed to restore my money (2) Enquire into the case to rule out fraud / illegitimate siphoning of consumers’ funds, in which case, an appropriate criminal proceeding could be filed with the police.
