I was duped into investing 750 rupees in an Instagram scam where I was told I would receive 23,500 rupees in just 25 minutes.
I waited patiently, and to my surprise, they announced that I had earned 36,999 rupees more than I had anticipated.
This, however, was subject to my paying a processing fee of 1,999 rupees, which they assured me was the last payment necessary for an immediate withdrawal.
I paid them because I believed they would keep their word and waited, only to learn that my profit had increased to 48,500 rupees.
They claimed I had to pay a 10% GST, or 4,850 rupees, for a total profit of 48,500 rupees, in order to comply with Indian government regulations.
Additionally, they stated that the business would handle 20% of the profit.
They sent me a so-called “Federal Trade Commission form” along the way, which I diligently filled out and returned. I wanted to get my money back, so I asked how long it would take to cash out.
I said that I was willing to forego any further profit and just get my money back.
I was astounded by their answer. They asked for an extra 7,999 rupees as the ostensible last payment for an immediate cash withdrawal.
As soon as I understood this was a ruse, I resisted. Instead, I begged for my 7,599 rupee investment to be returned.
They insisted on the 7,999 rupee investment despite my repeated requests to have my money returned. I am now seeking assistance to recover my entire loss of 7,599 rupees because I am frustrated and desperate.
