Kasauli Castle – Avoid for inconvenience

We booked two rooms and paid advance to confirm them. Later we were advised that rooms can be provided for one night and arrangements can be made for second night in some other hotel. While checking in we were told that second night booking has been done in an other hotel Blosom 2 kms away from this place. To be sure of the place we went to see the place and did not like it. As the stay was for couple of days and to avoid inconvenience of shifting we requested for refund of advance so that we can look for alternate accommodation. But was declined. Inspite of all persuasion the owner was not ready to accommodate. Needless to mention the situation we had to face in front of friends, family and others. We had no choice but to forgo advance without any fault of ours. We are hoping good sense will prevail and we will get our money back.

  1. Okay hotel, but a bit overpriced
The Kasauli castle is about 10-15 minutes drive away from Kasauli town centre. It is however only about a kilometer walk from the hotel to the town center also, if you’re willing and able to walk up steep inclines! We did the walk one time and half-way through we thought of giving up – but decided that it would be a waste of the effort spent, so kept going!
The hotels is neat, and service was okay. It was quite a bit smaller than it looks in the pictures shown on the website. Good photographer I guess. The room was pretty small, considering the price I paid, which apparently was for the view which was really good!
There is a lawn in front where they serve food also, and at night play movies on a big screen. So if your room is facing this way, be ready to be disturbed! Of course, you could look at the positives and say that you can watch the movie from your balcony.
The food was reasonable, nothing great, but not bad either. This is rather important, since we could not really find any decent places to eat in Kasauli town. You could drive to Dharampur, but who wants to do that for every meal?
We mostly ate in the room, but be aware, if you keep your dirty plates outside, monkeys/cats might come along and break the dishes!
We were disappointed that there was no kids play area – I distinctly remember reading on a website that there was one, but nope. They do have a Fusball table, billiards and T-T table, but these were not something my 4 year old could really enjoy. Also they had board games available on request.
Note that you have to climb down several stairs to get to the hotel, so definitely a problem for people who struggle with stairs.
All in all, it was average. Okay for spending a couple of nights, since by the 3rd day we were wondering what to do. 2 days spent in Kasauli town are more than enought, there not being much else to see.
