Now, Transportation is a hassle in India. While it amounts to 5% of GDP, good transport companies are a rarity. That is where SpotOn Logistics enter the game, masking themselves with a cute domain name, Trukky.com.
I booked(on 18th Jan 2019) a Partial Load from Gandhidam to Trivandrum, (normally I use a parcel service such as VRL which takes a week to deliver) arranging to pick the materials on 21st Jan 2019. Price calculated was Rs 5293(400 kilo Consignment, Rs 13 per kilo is not too bad. VRL etc charge us Rs 9, but they wont pick up from our site. so seems a better bet) as per dimensions and weight I provided.
They didnt show up the whole day, and evening 5:30 they called to reschedule for 22nd, and that was day 1 of my logistics days gone waste.
22nd 3:30 pm they picked up, and then I get an email that charges are revised to Rs 10245 as weight is 500 Kilo(for which they didnt provide any proof). After emails back n forth, they reduce it to Rs 9500 which I promptly paid same day.
23rd Jan. Consignment still in Trukky warehouse(as per their tracking), My Day 2 wasted.
24th, Materials Transported to Ahmedabad, and Tracking email said I can receive my materials on 28th.(Wow, delivery in 7 days. This is good, I am less pissed off now that they charged me almost double of what originally quoted and more than double of VRL etc)
27th. They “update” that materials shall be delivered not on 28th, but on 1st Feb! That is 4 extra days. I can never convince my client about this and probably I am going to lose my future orders.
After few phone calls to Madhri of Trukky.com(she wouldnt pick up my calls anymore, hopefully resigned from such a shitty company), she emails me “to deliver ASAP”
28th, Materials are in Bangalore.
29th. Materials are in Cochin, and as per last tracking sms, “final haul departed from Cochin on 29th”.
29, 30, 31. still no update. emails, calls to call centres, offices all parrot the same message, “We shall let you know when we deliver”. You know how good the feeling is when you have committed to your client and days pass by without being able to speed up the shipment. All I get is pre-scripted replies(or may be AI is already so developed and these are not humans I interacted with but well advanced AI robots programmed to read SMS messages).
31st. Tracked down local office number in Trivandrum, and they seemed more helpful. They said there came a truck from Cochin today morning(they dont have daily service between the largest 2 cities in Kerala apparently). Not sure if our goods are in that truck, and unloading will happen today afternoon. That is another working day gone for a client multiplied by number of consignments in that truck, but Trukky seemed not in a hurry at all.
Oh well, they offer an awesome Rs 100(can buy half kilo of peanuts) per day of late delivery.(but they can postpone day of delivery any time they want), so I doubt what that offer is gonna help with.
So hopefully, today we will get our consignment. After loading/unloading, hopefully not mishandling, at 5 different hubs, I am optimistic to find my materials in good shape.
