Amazon – Passcode applied to recieve my delivery

I recently purchased an item for $139.99 and was surprised to find out two days later, when the item was shipped, that I would need to provide an in-person code on the day of delivery. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be present due to work, and there is no option to refuse this requirement. What’s more, there was no warning about this when I made the purchase. This has happened to me twice, and with Amazon having 340 million customers, it’s hard to believe that it’s just random. When I called the support numbers to ask for clarification, I didn’t receive any explanation. I have ordered more expensive items in the past, and they were simply left on my porch without any issues. This practice is unacceptable, and I believe I should be compensated for being discriminated against in this manner for some unknown reason. It feels like retaliation.
