Landlord not returning the deposit

I had taken a Flat for rent along with my friend in Adugodi, Bangalore on May 5th 2017 for a year, I have paid a deposit of 55,000, so now I have completed a year in that house and was told that I would be charged looking at the condition of the house when we vacate. We have vacated today April 5th 2018 and when we were called to collect the deposit without even looking at the house the by the landlord, he has changed us 16000 for painting, which is clearly mentioned in our rental agreement that either we can paint the house or else landlord will do so, when we are clearly telling the landlord that we will paint the house he’s disagreed and now deducted the painting charges and when we moved into the house it was not painted and when we have proofs for it he says we have edited it/ shadow of something falling on the wall. Kindly help us since it is our hard earned money we just don’t fraud people like these to simply have it
