Visited hospital to check for delivery packages for daughter and was really amazed to see ambience and hospitality. We were shown rooms and had almost decided to book until we met their midwife who took us for water birthing facility. We were strongly recommended or I will say they marketed their water birthing facility, but it was in vain. I being a doctor myself strongly condemn water birthing treatment by this midwifery concept. How could you mislead patient without also telling them cons of this procedure. I was not at all convinced on few things:(1) What if water gets contaminated with vaginal or rectal flora or tubs, filters, pumps not sterlized properly(2) What if baby inhales, too early, the contaminated amniotic fluid in case of meconium aspiration(3) Baby dying of pneumonia as a result of ingesting water with fecal contamination water(4) umbilical cord tethering fetus underwater result in fetal blood loss .

Marketing gimmick like these are good but not at the cost of something. No offense but are these risks where the probability of losing a baby might be less, but YES there is some risk. Is this facility worth taking risk? If it is good and risk free why all hospitals/doctors do not promote this? Is every staff involved in your hospital trained for water birthing delivery? I am very sure not all midwives in hospital would be trained as the entire concept in Gurgaon is new. How many water birthing has hospital done in past? Not more than 2 -3(I may be wrong)? Above all with all due respect and no offense I would like to ask staff “Would you recommend/suggest water birthing to your own family member at hospital knowing all these risks”. Probability might be less but even 1% is enough for someone to repent for their entire life.
